Managing the People section: Residents and Guests

The People section of the 1CONNECT portal is where property managers add, edit, and monitor everyone who interacts with their community. It is split into two tabs: Residents and Guests. This article walks through both sections.

Residents

As long as your Yardi integration is active, or residents have been entered directly into 1CONNECT, every resident profile will automatically appear under the Residents tab.

A search bar at the top of the list lets you look up residents by name, phone number, suite, or any other profile detail. On the right side of the page, you will find an Export option to download the full resident list as a CSV file for deeper analysis.

Adding a new resident

From the Residents tab, select Add New Resident on the right side of the page and fill in the resident's profile information:

  • Phone number

  • Email address (required)

  • First and last name

  • Preferred method of communication — defaults to the 1VALET app

  • Language — English or French

  • Suite number — pulled from Yardi or 1CONNECT

  • Buzzer/directory code — a unique four-digit code is generated automatically

  • Additional information — pets, notes, or anything else worth recording

  • Move-in date — synced from Yardi or entered manually

Important Note: When a move-in date is set, the resident will not be able to physically access the building or their suite until the morning of that date.

Once all required fields are filled in, select Onboard to send the resident an invitation — by email or text — to download the 1VALET app.

Entry console display name

Each resident profile includes a toggle that controls whether their name appears on the entry console.

  • Leave the toggle on to display the resident's name to guests at the entry console.

  • Toggle it off for residents who prefer to stay private for security reasons.

If the toggle is on, you can also enter an Override display name. This is useful for residents who go by a nickname — their legal name remains in your system for reference, but the entry console will show the nickname instead.

The same logic applies to phone numbers: enter an Override call number if a resident wants entry console calls to call a number other than the one on their profile.

Resident tags

Tags help group residents however it makes sense for your community — for example, Family Member, Co-Owner, POA, or Lawyer. Tags are fully customisable, and multiple tags can be added to a single resident.

To create a tag, scroll to the Create tags section on the resident's profile, type the tag name into the text box, and select Add. To confirm, scroll to the bottom of the page and select Save.

Resident designations (condo buildings only)

For condo buildings, an additional Resident designation option appears on the left side of the profile. Choose one of:

  • Renter

  • Owner

  • Non-resident owner

Emergency contacts

Open the Emergency contacts section on the resident's profile to record the name and contact details of anyone the property should reach in an emergency.

Storage and parking

Once your resident onboarding specialist has provided storage and parking information, you can assign the appropriate spaces from the resident's profile. Assigning a space automatically grants the resident access to the corresponding door - if you have a Salto integration.

Vehicle information and car tags

Under the Vehicle Information section, enter the resident's licence plate number, make, model, year, and colour. If your community uses car tags or clickers, enter the unique car tag number in the Car Tag field.

Important Note: Car tags must be unique per resident and can only be assigned to one resident's profile at a time.

SALTO door permissions

If your community uses SALTO through 1VALET, an additional permissions section will appear at the bottom of the resident's profile. Use it to grant access to specific doors within the community.

Guests

Once a resident has activated the 1VALET app, they can create guest invites for family and friends directly from their phone. From the Guests tab in 1CONNECT, property managers can monitor everyone coming and going within the community, whether they are using the 1VALET Guest app or an entry code.

Revoking guest access

From the Guests tab, select any guest entry to review it. From there, you can revoke that guest's access at any time.

Restricting a resident from creating guest invites

If a resident is flouting the rules of your community, you can stop them from creating future guest invites. Open the Settings option at the top of the Guests tab to:

  • Disable guest invites for the entire community, and view the list of currently restricted residents

  • You can click on a current guest invite to rescind the guest and ban the resident from creating future invites.

Adding a guest on behalf of a resident

For residents who are not comfortable using a smartphone, property managers can create a guest invite on their behalf:

  1. From the Guests tab, select Add New Guest.

  2. Fill in the required guest details.

  3. Set the date and time the guest's invitation becomes active.

  4. Link the invite to a resident. If that resident later moves out of the building, the guest invite will automatically stop working.

  5. Select Add Guest to save the invite.
