What is a parent event?

A parent event represents a recurring event as a whole.

It acts as the “series” that groups all occurrences of the event together.

For example:

  • A weekly yoga class

  • A monthly board meeting

Each individual occurrence is part of the same parent event.

Parent event vs individual occurrences

When you create a recurring event:

  • The parent event contains the overall event setup

  • Each occurrence is a specific date and time within that series

Example

A weekly yoga class:

  • Parent event: Yoga Class

  • Occurrences:

    • June 1 at 6:00 PM

    • June 8 at 6:00 PM

    • June 15 at 6:00 PM

What can you do from the parent event?

The parent event allows you to manage the series as a whole.

From the parent event, you can:

  • View all upcoming occurrences

  • Edit future occurrences in one action

  • Send announcements to all invited residents

  • See overall event details

Editing a parent event

When editing a recurring event, you may be asked whether to apply changes to:

  • This event only (a single occurrence)

  • This and future events (the parent event)

Changes made to the parent event will apply to all future occurrences in the series.

When should I use the parent event?

Use the parent event when you want to:

  • Update all future occurrences at once

  • Manage the event at a series level

  • Communicate with all invited residents

Important notes

  • Changes to a parent event do not affect past occurrences

  • Some changes may impact bookings across multiple occurrences

  • You will be prompted before applying changes to future events
